WATER QUALITY NOTICE
The lakes in the Meadow Hills Association are private, which means there are no regulations governing water testing. The MHA is not required to test water quality, nor is it technically required to close the MHA beach if a test comes back above normal. The decision to play, swim, skate, etc. in the lakes of the Association falls solely on each individual member.
That being said, for general maintenance purposes, an MHA Volunteer samples the water from the Meadow Hills Association beach twice per year & takes those samples to the Guilford Health Department for testing. This is typically done around the End of the School Year and then in Mid-Summer. If a test comes back at levels above the town guidelines for swimming, the MHA will typically post a notice on this page, as well as at the MHA beach, stating that the Guilford Health Department recommends against swimming until the water has had a chance to settle back to normal & is re-tested. If a test comes back as normal, the MHA will typically post a notice on this page as well.
In general, the lakes in the Meadow Hills Association are rather clean. The water is 25'-30' deep in the main lake and has some cold natural springs feeding the lake from below in addition to the flow from Malley's Pond. & Little Meadow Brook beyond. However, individual members should use common sense when utilizing the lakes. Similar to public lakes, heavy rains can have an affect on water quality for the following day(s).
